Job Description

Senior Accountant – Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)

Location: Nashville, TN area preferred (Location negotiable for the right candidate)
Schedule: Remote-Centric Hybrid (Primarily remote with planned in-office meetings 1–2 times per month)
Salary: $85,000 - $92,000 Annual 

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Accountant – M&A to join a growing accounting team supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint venture transactions. This role will be responsible for managing accounting workstreams throughout the transaction lifecycle, ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, and supporting the successful integration of newly acquired entities.

The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting knowledge, experience with purchase accounting and business combinations, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent transactions in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary accounting resource for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and entity transactions.
  • Prepare and record general ledger journal entries related to acquisition and divestiture activities.
  • Perform accounting due diligence by reviewing financial statements, billing reports, and supporting documentation to identify risks and accounting implications.
  • Interpret purchase agreements and legal documentation to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Support the onboarding and integration of newly acquired entities into accounting systems and financial processes.
  • Prepare post-close adjustments, deconsolidation entries, cash analyses, and net working capital calculations.
  • Monitor transition service agreements (TSAs) and ensure timely completion of transaction-related accounting activities.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve accounting issues.
  • Analyze financial results, identify significant variances, and prepare supporting commentary for management.
  • Coordinate the transition of acquired entities to operational accounting teams.
  • Train business office personnel on accounting policies and procedures, including accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Legal, and leadership teams throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Manage multiple acquisitions and integration activities simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and transaction workflows.
  • Support special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience with M&A accounting, including purchase accounting, transaction accounting, due diligence, post-close accounting, integrations, or business combinations.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, financial analysis, and month-end close activities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent M&A accounting experience.
  • Experience interpreting purchase agreements and evaluating accounting impacts of transaction structures.
  • Experience supporting entity integrations and onboarding activities.
  • Knowledge of financial planning and reporting systems such as SmartStream, IBM Planning & Analytics (TM1), or Smartsheet is a plus.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
