Job Description

Role Summary
This position involves supporting the FAA by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network infrastructure critical to aviation safety and operations. The role requires managing IP-based networks, including routing, switching, security, and fiber optic systems, across a regional area. The successful candidate will work from a designated location and travel throughout the region to support multiple sites, ensuring network reliability, performance, and security.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the uptime, performance, and security of FAA network infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, and support routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Support SD-WAN deployment and health across distributed environments.
  • Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fibers.
  • Conduct fiber testing using OTDR and certification tools to ensure quality and performance.
  • Monitor network systems daily, analyze logs, and respond to incidents, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues across fiber, SD-WAN, and IP layers to restore optimal performance.
  • Support network cutovers, migrations, and validation of failover procedures.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, and configuration records.
  • Respond to and resolve network incidents to minimize downtime and impact.

Qualifications

  • This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent (e.g., Master’s with 6+ years, Associate’s with 10+ years, or GED with 12+ years).
  • Proven experience managing enterprise network environments supporting large-scale systems.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar network devices and technologies.
  • Experience with TDM-to-IP migration projects and modern IP-based networking systems.
  • Solid understanding of SD-WAN, fiber optics, wireless LAN/WAN technologies.
  • Familiarity with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
  • Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and technical schematics.
  • Experience with fiber testing tools such as OTDR.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Publishing Pay Range: $64.00 - $68.00 hourly
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
