Job Title: Controls Systems Engineer (HVAC & Building Automation)
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Controls Systems Engineer to design, engineer, and deploy advanced HVAC control systems for commercial building environments. In this role, you will support multiple Building Automation System (BAS) projects simultaneously, balancing office-based engineering design with hands-on field activities to ensure seamless system integration and optimal building performance.
This is a dynamic, client-facing role that requires a blend of desk-bound control logic/graphics development and regular on-site deployment. You will work closely with project managers, technicians, and engineering teams to engineer robust BAS solutions for large commercial properties and centralized mechanical systems. If you have a strong background in commercial HVAC and want to drive operational excellence in building automation, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & System Design
Controls Design: Design and engineer comprehensive HVAC control systems for commercial buildings, ensuring optimal performance, energy efficiency, and sequence of operations compliance.
BAS Development: Develop, program, and configure Building Automation System (BAS) solutions tailored to project specifications and large-scale facility requirements.
Multi-Project Management: Support multiple concurrent project lifecycles, maintaining schedules, engineering standards, and technical documentation.
Field Operations & Deployment
Site Support: Execute on-site field activities-accounting for approximately 30% to 50% of the role-including system startup, checkout, calibration, point-to-point testing, and troubleshooting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with project teams, field technicians, and client stakeholders to resolve technical challenges during project execution.
On-Site Presence: Maintain a consistent on-site presence adhering to standard facility schedules to align with customer operational requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associate's degree, technical diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related technical field (extensive hands-on industry experience may substitute for degree requirements).
Experience Baseline: Minimum of 3+ years of professional industry experience specializing in HVAC controls and building automation.
Technical Mastery:
oProven experience in commercial HVAC design and engineering (large buildings and centralized systems).
oHands-on expertise with Building Automation Systems (BAS) focused specifically on HVAC applications.
oDemonstrated ability to navigate both office engineering environments and active customer jobsites.
Core Competencies: Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills; excellent communication abilities; discipline to manage time across split office/field responsibilities.
Preferred Attributes
Background as a Senior HVAC Controls Technician looking to transition into a full-time engineering role.
Experience managing complex site deployments in strict, customer-driven operational environments.
