About the Role

We are seeking experienced Senior SAS Administrator / Infrastructure Engineers to provide operational support, administration, maintenance and enhancement of enterprise SAS analytics platforms. The successful candidates will work within a complex government environment supporting critical data analytics capabilities, ensuring the availability, performance, security and reliability of SAS infrastructure services.

The role requires strong expertise in SAS platform administration, infrastructure management, systems design, performance optimisation, incident and problem management, and automation of operational processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, support and maintain SAS environments including SAS Viya, SAS Visual Analytics (VA), SAS Enterprise Guide and related technologies.
  
• Monitor platform health, availability, capacity and performance to ensure service levels are achieved.
  
• Investigate, diagnose and resolve infrastructure, system and application issues.
  
• Perform system upgrades, patching, maintenance and lifecycle management activities.
  
• Develop and implement disaster recovery, backup and business continuity procedures.
  
• Support infrastructure change activities including deployments, upgrades, migrations and decommissioning.
  
• Automate administration and operational activities through scripting and infrastructure management tools.
  
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and knowledge articles.
  
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, analysts and business stakeholders to support analytics services.
  
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, service enhancements and operational excellence.
  

Requirements Availability Management (SFIA Level 5)

• Demonstrated experience planning, implementing and improving service availability for enterprise platforms.
  
• Experience developing, testing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
  
• Proven ability to investigate service outages and implement preventative measures.
  
• Strong understanding of high-availability infrastructure architectures and resilience patterns.
  

Capacity Management (SFIA Level 4)

• Experience monitoring infrastructure and application performance, capacity and utilisation trends.
  
• Ability to identify capacity risks and implement corrective actions.
  
• Experience supporting capacity planning, forecasting and performance optimisation activities.
  
• Extensive experience administering enterprise SAS environments including SAS Viya and SAS Visual Analytics.
  
• Strong experience supporting Linux-based infrastructure platforms.
  
• Experience implementing infrastructure maintenance, patching and upgrade activities.
  
• Demonstrated ability to utilise monitoring and management tools to support operational environments.
  
• Experience automating administration and deployment activities through scripting and tooling.
  

Problem Management (SFIA Level 4)

• Proven experience conducting root cause analysis and resolving complex technical issues.
  
• Experience managing incidents, problems and corrective actions within large-scale environments.
  
• Ability to identify recurring issues and implement preventative solutions.
  

Programming / Software Development (SFIA Level 3)

• Experience developing and maintaining scripts to support infrastructure and platform administration.
  
• Demonstrated capability using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, PowerShell or similar.
  
• Ability to develop, test, document and maintain automation solutions.
  
• Experience contributing to the design and architecture of enterprise platforms and infrastructure solutions.
  
• Ability to assess design options, risks and trade-offs.
  
• Experience producing technical designs and implementation documentation.
  
• Understanding of security, performance, scalability and operational requirements within system designs.
  

Systems Installation and Removal (SFIA Level 5)

• Demonstrated experience leading installation, upgrade, migration and decommissioning activities.
  
• Experience coordinating implementation activities across multiple stakeholders.
  
• Ability to develop implementation plans, quality controls and operational runbooks.
  
• Proven experience delivering infrastructure projects within complex environments.
  
• Experience administering SAS Viya 4 and cloud-native analytics platforms.
  
• Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift or containerised infrastructure environments.
  
• Experience with SAS Grid Manager and distributed analytics environments.
  
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  
• Experience with Ansible, Terraform or Infrastructure as Code technologies.
  
• Experience supporting Azure, AWS or other cloud platforms.
  
• Experience working within Australian Government or highly regulated environments.
  
• Knowledge of ITIL Service Management practices.
  
• Experience with enterprise monitoring tools, logging platforms and observability solutions.
  
• Experience supporting security accreditation, vulnerability management and compliance activities.
  
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
