Position: Data Engineer with Sybase, Java Development

Location: Remote

Duration: 5 Months with strong possibility of extension

Interviews: (3 Rounds): All the interviews within one week.

Description: We''re looking for a Software Engineer to join migrating 3 legacy applications as part of a larger co-design initiative. This role combines traditional Java/database migration work (Sybase, DB2) with modern agentic development tooling (ADK) to accelerate and inform the migration approach.

Key Responsibilities:

• Migrate 3 applications from legacy Java/Sybase/DB2 stacks to the target architecture within a 3-month engagement window
• Apply Agentic Development Capabilities and ADK (Agent Development Kit) to support and accelerate migration workflows (e.g., code analysis, transformation, testing assistance)
• Analyze existing application logic, data models, and dependencies in Sybase and DB2 to plan migration paths
• Collaborate closely with the broader co-design team to align migration patterns and reusable approaches across applications
• Identify and resolve compatibility issues between legacy database systems and the target platform
• Document migration decisions, patterns, and learnings to inform the larger co-design effort
• Deliver working, tested migrations within the engagement timeline

Required Skills & Experience:

• Strong Java development experience, particularly with legacy enterprise applications
• Hands-on experience with Sybase and DB2 (schema, queries, stored procedures, data migration)
• Experience with Agentic Development Capabilities and ADK (Agent Development Kit) — using AI agents to assist in code migration, analysis, or transformation
• Experience with application modernization/migration projects, ideally on tight timelines
• Ability to work independently and deliver within a defined short-term engagement
• Strong communication skills for collaborating within a larger co-design/team effort

Nice to Have:

• Prior experience in short-term, engagement-based consulting roles
• Experience with legacy-to-cloud migration patterns
• Familiarity with other Google Cloud Platform AI/agent tooling (Vertex AI, LangChain, AgentSpace)
