Job Description

Job Title: Project Manager (Data Management)
Location: Oakland, CA // Hybrid
Hybrid: 1-3 days a week onsite
Duration: 4+ Months with a high possibility of extension

Job Description:
6+ years of experience is preferred, but there is no maximum; candidates with 10–15+ years can be considered if their experience is relevant.
The role is Project Manager-focused, but Data Management is more important than traditional PM skills.
Candidate should have hands-on understanding of Enterprise Data Management, preferably across multiple data domains rather than only one area such as Finance.
Must be able to work independently, think analytically, handle ambiguity, and exercise good judgment/discretion.
Candidate will own one or two major priorities, including maintaining and governing the organization''s critical data inventory and managing changes.
Will also provide support/back-up across the broader Enterprise Data Management team.
Strong communication skills are important, especially the ability to translate complex/ambiguous information into digestible updates for senior stakeholders.
Experience preparing weekly/monthly reports for senior VPs/EVPs or executive stakeholders would be a strong plus.

Preferred Technical / Domain Experience
Data Management / Data Governance
Enterprise Data Management ecosystem
Collibra – preferred
Ataccama – preferred
Snowflake – helpful, but not mandatory
Understanding of Microsoft 365
Power BI is not required; the hiring manager''s team handles reporting.
Experience with enterprise data platforms/ecosystems is beneficial.

Certifications
CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) from DAMA is highly preferred.
PMP is helpful but not required.
Certifications are viewed as evidence that the candidate has a foundational understanding of data management.

Red Flags
Candidate has worked exclusively in one data domain, such as Finance Data Management.
Candidate is significantly overqualified, e.g., current/previous Chief Data & Analytics Officer applying for a project-level role.
Resume shows very senior strategic leadership but lacks hands-on project-level/data-management execution.
Candidate has strong traditional PM experience but limited Data Management knowledge.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidate would be a Data Management professional with Project Management experience, rather than a traditional Project Manager who happens to have some exposure to data. Someone with CDMP + enterprise data governance/data management + project coordination + executive reporting + Collibra/Ataccama/Snowflake exposure would likely be a very strong match.
