Electronics Lab Technician

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Engineering Technician to support engineering laboratory operations, electronic prototype builds, PCBA rework, wire harness fabrication, ECU assembly, and functional testing. The technician will work closely with engineering teams to build, modify, test, troubleshoot, and maintain electronic assemblies and prototypes while ensuring workmanship and documentation meet applicable industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the receiving and shipping of packages, components, equipment, and engineering materials.
• Manage material inventories and prepare kit parts for assembly, testing, and rework activities.
• Perform PCBA modifications and electronic component rework, including soldering and de-soldering of electronic components.
• Perform blue-wire modifications and PCB rework in accordance with IPC Class 3 workmanship requirements.
• Solder fine-pitch ICs and small components, including 0402 components.
• Build and modify wire harnesses in accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620C requirements.
• Build, assemble, and set up custom test equipment based on engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Conduct functional testing of electronic circuit assemblies, prototype hardware, and engineering units.
• Perform ECU module assembly according to engineering drawings, diagrams, work instructions, and specifications.
• Use laboratory test equipment to perform electrical measurements and troubleshoot electronic assemblies.
• Maintain accurate records of test results, assembly activities, rework, failures, and troubleshooting findings.
• Support the development and updating of test procedures, work instructions, and engineering documentation as required.
• Troubleshoot electronic and electrical failures and identify potential root causes.
• Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to investigate failures and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure laboratory equipment, materials, and work areas are properly maintained and organized.
• Follow applicable ESD, safety, quality, and workmanship requirements during all laboratory and assembly activities.

Required Qualifications

• 3 years of experience working as a technician in electronics, electrical, engineering, or R&D laboratory environments.
• Technology/Technician degree or equivalent technical experience.
• Strong understanding of basic electrical and electronic concepts.
• Excellent soldering, PCBA rework, and wire harnessing skills.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment such as:
  • Digital multimeters
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Electronic loads (e-loads)
  • Power supplies
  • Other electrical/electronic diagnostic equipment
• Ability to solder fine-pitch ICs and 0402 components.
• Strong technical and hands-on problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, diagrams, and technical specifications.
• Experience using Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with electric vehicles (EVs) or automotive electronics.
• Familiarity with JIRA or similar engineering/project-management tools.
• Basic Python scripting experience for test automation, data analysis, or engineering support.
• Experience with ECU modules, automotive electronics, PCBA testing, or prototype development.
• Experience troubleshooting electronic hardware and performing root-cause analysis.

Preferred Certifications

Certification or formal training in one or more of the following is a plus:

• IPC-A-610 – Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
• IPC/WHMA-A-620 – Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies
• IPC-7711/7721 – Rework, Modification and Repair of Electronic Assemblies
• J-STD-001 – Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies

Work Environment

This role is primarily hands-on and laboratory-based, requiring close collaboration with electrical, electronics, firmware, hardware, validation, and other engineering teams. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with prototype hardware, performing detailed electronic rework, conducting testing, and troubleshooting complex technical issues in a fast-paced engineering environment.
